Haven't had a chance to go birding for some time so here is a photo of a Mourning Dove I took last year in NJ. Mourning DoveShooting Info: Canon XSi + 300mm f/4L + Canon 1.4x, f/8, 1/320 sec, ISO 800, +2/3 EV

I wonder why the dove is mourning. Is it because it makes a moaning call? It looks like a close shot of less than 10 meters to get so much detail. Well done Eric & Mabuhay.

Nice clear capture, Eric. I notice the feathers are thick and fluffy. Was this taken during the winter?

@sir Ely: Yes, you're right. Its name came from its mournful call oowoo-woo-woo-woo. And yes, you're right again about the distance. I checked the Exif and it says 7.65m.
@ramon: This was taken towards the end of winter so the trees are still void of leaves. When I took this photo, the bird was calling so it was puffing up its chest, very much like a pigeon does when it coos.
