Not me! Being a genuine Ilocano, I can live with this contraption - two layers of translucent white sandwich bag tied around the built-in flash with a rubber band. ;D A couple of shots from this flash - the first spider was hugging a metal pole, while the second one was at a tree trunk. 7D + 100 2.8 USM macro, f/9, 1/250 sec, ISO 800, hand held, manual exposure, spot AI servo, built-in flash @ 0 FEC with DIY diffuser, 8 MP crop processed and resized to 1500x1000. 7D + 100 2.8 USM macro, f/8, 1/250 sec, ISO 800, hand held, manual exposure, spot AI servo, built-in flash @ 0 FEC with DIY diffuser, 8 MP crop processed and resized to 1500x1000.

Hehehe, brilliant and ingenious way to tame harsh flash lighting Ka Mastah! We should sell that contraption thru our club! Hahaha. Excellent macro work - you certainly have your 7D figured out! :-)

Great results from your DIY diffuser, Ka Mastah. You really should start mass producing this and your previous contraptions for the market. ;D

Thanks, Rey! The DIY diffuser for the built-in flash works well at macros because the shooting distance is very short, hence the power of the small flash is sufficient. I usually allow the distant background to be exposed a bit by natural light to reduce the flashed look. Here's a simple portrait of a fly from this morning. 7D + 100 2.8 USM macro, f/8, 1/200 sec, ISO 800, hand held, manual exposure, spot AI servo, built-in flash @ -1&1/3 FEC with DIY diffuser, 12 MP crop processed and resized to 1500x1000.

Wow got to try this macro thing sometime. Looks really difficult but as you said the discipline is the same so I hope the learning curve won't be too steep.
