Its been almost two months since I went to UP looking for the Philippine Serpent Eagle (Spilornis holospilus) which is endemic to the Philippines. I did not see it at all the first time. While photographing the Blue Rock-Thrush with Bob we got a text message from Bong informing us that the Eagle has landed. True enough after some searching we found him perch on the branch of a tree. I am truly delighted with this lifer and happy to share these pictures with all of you. It was fun taking pictures of these nice bird with Bob and Bong. Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM. Gitzo GT3530LS Tripod, Wimberley WH200 Head. Manual exposure in available light. f/8, ISO 400, 1/250 sec. f/8, ISO 400, 1/320 sec. f/8, ISO 400, 1/400 sec. f/8, ISO 400, 1/320 sec. f/8, ISO 400, 1/250 sec. f/8, ISO 400, 1/320 sec. f/8, ISO 400, 1/250 sec. Looks like this eagle also has a nictitating membrane. f/8, ISO 400, 1/250 sec. f/10, ISO 400, 1/250 sec. f/9, ISO 400, 1/160 sec.

PSE overload na ako Ely!! All well done. Third shot somehow makes me sleepy?? Thank you Chito. I missed the PSE the first time and I could not get enough of it. I consider this a lucky break which Bob and Bong will surely agree and it gave us an immeasurable amount of fun and entertainment. I am now fully loaded. LOL

the third shot has a better profile, but the first shot reveals more details for scientific use... so i'd go for the first shot.^_^ nice to be there when they're there, ely. bird photography then, is timing, creativity, and of course, the hardware.^_^

Speaking of bird photography, I better heed your advice and go to UP this week while the Ferrogenous Flycatcher is still there.

Nice set Ely,sharp and well exposed. Thank you Rey. You can say that the bird stayed there long enough to give Bong, Bob, and I to experiment with our camera settings.
