The weather was lousy this morning, and only a Certified Birdnut would go out to bird. But I am one so I hied off to Coastal Lagoon to loosen up my shutter finger. I bumped into Rey there who had the overcast area all to himself until I arrived. ;D Anyway, as I was waiting for BIFs, I noticed a "Little Egret" fishing behind the rocks nearby. I paid no attention to it..... well until it showed its head between two rocks. OMG, that bill looks very different!!! Both the shooter and the shootee were startled, and I managed to grab a couple of frames as the bird took off. I think this one is indeed a Chinese, but if I'm wrong on the ID please feel free to correct me. Chinese Egret ( Egretta eulophotes, provisional ID) Shooting info - Coastal Lagoon, Manila Bay, October 13, 2010, 1D4 + 500 f4 L IS + Canon 1.4x TC, 700 mm, f/7.1, ISO 800, 1/1250 sec, manual exposure in available light, 475B/3421 support, near full frame. Here's the second shot (uncropped full frame) - out of focus, but I think the color of the legs can be discerned.

I'm no expert but this looks Chinese to me too Mastah Romy. It's been awhile since I did BIF's, it's like a refresher course with the Mastah this morning. Hope to catch you there again soon.

Ka Rene, I did post my Chinese Egret, though on a different thread (Bird Identification) because I wasn't sure then if what I got was indeed a Chinese Egret. Here's the thread for that. birdphotoph.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=id&action=display&thread=6531

It's a Chinese Egret, here are some indicators that I see: slight black scaling on yellow greenish legs, tibia is the right size (they need it for runs), gape/eye position.

Soft light makes it more pleasing to capture details on white feathered birds, and as always, you captured this beauty so well!
