Ok, it's a different BIF - a butterfly in flight over the Coastal Lagoon. I hope TeLyds can ID this. ;D Shooting info - Coastal Lagoon, Manila Bay, October 11, 2010, 1D4 + 500 f4 L IS + Canon 1.4x TC, 700 mm, f/6.3, ISO 400, 1/1000 sec, manual exposure in available light, 475B/3421 support, near 100% crop. So this thread won't be off-topic in this board, let me add a real bird, also taken this morning. Common Sandpiper ( Actitis hypoleucos) Shooting info - Coastal Lagoon, Manila Bay, October 11, 2010, 1D4 + 500 f4 L IS + Canon 1.4x TC, 700 mm, f/6.3, ISO 400, 1/1000 sec, manual exposure in available light, 475B/3421 support.

Great catch of the Butterfly Mastah. The Sandpiper is excellent too with the nice pose and the soft light in clean background.

Thanks folks for the comments and the butterfly ID! A Coastal Lagoon visit is incomplete without a real BIF. Whiskered Tern ( Chlidonias hybridus) Shooting info - Coastal Lagoon, Manila Bay, October 11, 2010, 1D4 + 500 f4 L IS + Canon 1.4x TC, 700 mm, f/7.1, ISO 400, 1/2000 sec, manual exposure in available light, 475B/3421 support

oh my Mastah! first time to see a bif "butterfly in flight" i like the photo of the whiskered tern Thanks, Den! Here's another one taken on Oct. 4th, this time with a 400 5.6L. I'd call it a "crucifixion pose." Grey-tailed Tattler ( Heteroscelus brevipes) Shooting info - Coastal Lagoon, Manila Bay, October 4, 2010, 1D4 + 400 5.6L, 400 mm, f/6.3, ISO 400, 1/1600 sec, manual exposure in available light, hand held

Mastah Romy, whether it is a butterfly or a bird, your shots are simply the best!
Despite the abundance and proximity of terns at the lagoon, all my bifs taken there were bifs (blurred in flight) ;D

Thanks again folks for the comments! For those who have trouble differentiating a Grey-tailed Tattler from a Common Sandpiper, here's an in-flight capture of the latter showing the white wing bars and barred tail. Common Sandpiper ( Actitis hypoleucos) Shooting info - Coastal Lagoon, Manila Bay, October 4, 2010, 1D4 + 500 f4 L IS + Canon 1.4x TC, 700 mm, f/6.3, ISO 400, 1/1600 sec, manual exposure in available light, bean bag. And a Grey-tailed Tattler captured in a previous sortie, note the absence of wing bar and tail barring.

This is your best avatar, Mastah! Beautiful, beautiful capture! I can use this one as my logo for my new Travel Agency name - Birdwing Travel Services. This Papilio butterfly is a birdwing. I have to disagree with our bird expert, it is not the Troides magellanus. This is the female Troides radamanthus radamanthus, endemic. telyds.
