Dear folks, Just want to share that our ONLINE EXCLUSIVE: A Photographic Guide to the Birds of the Philippines has become a valuable resource for many people, including scientists who specialize on Philippine birds. The other day, I got an email from Mr. Jan van der Ploeg, and I'm reproducing the same below: Leiden, 23 September Dear Mr. Ocon We have not met before, but I have regularly marveled at your wonderful pictures on Philippine Bird Photography Forum. A few years ago we used your pictures during fieldwork in the Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park. We interviewed Agta hunters on their knowledge of birds, and showed them photographs of all species in the park. The results have just been published in the journal Forktail (please see article attached). I thought you might be interested in the article. Quite a shock that Tim Fischer passed away: a great loss for Philippine ornithology.
Truly yours Jan van der PloegFor everybody's reference, I've uploaded the PDF article, which is entitled: Agta bird names: an ethno-ornithological survey in the Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park, Philippines by JAN VAN DER PLOEG and MERLIJN VAN WEERD. This appeared in the latest issue of Forktail ( Journal of Asian Ornithology). www.orientalbirdclub.org/publications/forktail/index.htmlRomy Attachments:

It's good to know that what we're doing contributes to science as well. That survey with the Agtas is a very interesting read Ka Romy, thanks for sharing this with us.

It takes a foreigner to show us where the birds are and be able to appreciate it. I wonder how long it took them to make this study. It is indeed admirable to see what they have done. Thank you for posting this article Romy. Mabuhay.
