This is one of the very few times I had to go ISO 1600 because the bird is located inside the really dark area of the forest and just would not come out. It was really a difficult shot because of the many branches blocking our view, anyway I'm glad I still had a shot of this pretty endemic. Here's my Pitta... Btw, I remembered this Pitta to have called on us for hours till it seemed to have gone hoarse! We were there actually waiting for it, but it did not show itself in near us or in open space where we could get good shots, except when it introduced itself for seconds, but then it hid behind those leaves and branches leaving only its calls to be clearly heard by us. I want to share with you some email and Facebook messages I got regarding this thread:
From Vice Mayor Conrad Cejoco:
Thank you for the pictures Alain with the few that I have seen I believe that the birds of bislig exhibit at the ABF will be the rave of the festival. I hope na matuloy yun kasi I am so proud of the work you have done and even more for the species that still exist in Bislig. If there is anyway I may be able to help put up the exhibit please let me know. I was told by Mike you had a problem with the panels where the pictures will be hanged. Conrad
From Atty. Ipat Luna:
Will you have a Bislig exhibit to call attention to saving the last remaining patches? The venue will be no problem. National Museum? How about CSB Museum at the SDA building?
From Wilma of WBCP:
You guys rock! Those are wonderful bird photos....I will check the site everyday for more photos! Walking those kilometers was one thing but carrying those heavy lens was another thing. Thanks for sharing your photographs!
Wilma

The shooting of the Philippine Leafbird is a classic example of a "firing squad" - all five of us threw several clicks unto this bird as it hopped from one tree and branch to another. The good thing on this king of shoot is that we get to see the bird in different angles and different interpretations and presentations by the photographers. Philippine Leafbird Chloropsis flavipennis, Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, August 27, 2010 Canon EOS 50D + EF 300mm f2.8 + 2X TC + Benro Half-Gimbal Head and Tripod... 1/100, f/5.6, iso640

This capture is one of those "being in the right and the right time" thing. I was actually following a pair of Brown-tit Babblers while the rest where shooting this bird at a far distance. Suddenly, I was just pleasantly surprised that this bird flew into my direction and perch on a very near branch. It stayed for quite awhile while allowing me to get some very close captures. This photo shows that this bird has a beuatiful crest too and it stood upright when I was taking its picture. This bird is quite common in Bislig though it's not an easy catch because it's a very shy bird and will always stay in the inner parts of the tree. I had to stalk this bird for maybe 30 minutes before I had a chance to fire some shots. Had to go almost wide open in ISO 800 to get at least 1/200 because this bird keeps moving among the branches, good thing it stopped for a few seconds to eyeball me.
