Yes unfortunately the prices inside the Kinabalu National Park is expensive even for the local standard. Most locals opted for rooms outside the National Park such as Fairy Garden, Rose Cabin and the Cottage Hotel, but you need car to get you around. Check www.beautifulkk.com under Places To Stay then click on Kundasang for more info regarding hotels and lodges here. For eating out, the Koktas Restaurant just outside the entrance to the Park with ample parking spaces is the one of the favorite too. Cheaper than inside the National Park. For 3 times meals, it would cost you only around RM 24. If you hire a car from Kota Kinabalu, rougly per day is RM 150 for MYvi model. That's is good enough for 2 persons and if you calculate your room, hire car and meals with entrance fee, it is still cheaper to stay outside plus you could go to Poring Hot Spring Sub-station or Mesilau Sub-station in case it rain in the morning at the Park HQ. For renting car, go to www.sabahtourism.com and check under Directory for Transportation. Happy birding
