Pogito and I visited Candaba this morning to check out the star visitor, and we ran into Ixi (with her Sigmonster), JP and Martin, and other fellow members of the WBCP. We were fortunate to see the big bird in flight. Taiga Bean Goose ( Anser fabalis, migrant) Shooting info - Candaba wetlands, Pampanga, April 6, 2010, 7D + 400 2.8 IS + Canon 1.4x TC, 475B/3421 support, 560 mm, f/5.6, ISO 400, 1/1600 sec, manual exposure in available light, near full frame, 49.7 m distance.

Bravo. I was there with JP last Monday and the closest that I got was 95.8 meters. I will try to go back next week and see if my luck changes. Your picture as expected is super. I am still dreaming of the day that I can take BIF as good as what you did today. Did the goose come back? Well done Romy. Mabuhay.

And by the way, since everyone will most likely take a look at this post, we have a new name for the Org. We already have 23 voters out of 41, and with superb photos led by the Ka Mastah himself, the name Philippine Bird Photography, Inc. fits perfectly. We need an official announcement from the President. :Dtelyd

Thanks for the comments, folks! ;D Ruben Bala showed me and Jon Villasper a book with info on the Taiga Bean Goose and the Tundra Bean Goose. If I recall the illustration correctly, Taiga has a longer bill than the Tundra (the latter's bill length is just about half the length of the head). Here's a closer look of the head and the bill, I think the ID is spot on because of the long bill - about as long as the head. And some detail of the back and overwing. Shooting info - Candaba wetlands, Pampanga, April 6, 2010, 7D + 400 2.8 IS + Canon 1.4x TC, 475B/3421 support, 560 mm, f/5.6, ISO 400, 1/1600 sec, manual exposure in available light, major crop.

Wow fantastic flight shot! Who else can do this, but the Mastah himself! It looks like she reserved her flight show to the BIF master!

I am still dreaming of the day that I can take BIF as good as what you did today. Did the goose come back? Well done Romy. Mabuhay. Thanks, Ely..... JP sent me an SMS at mid-day today that it came back to the same area. Near full frame! Woo hoo HOO!! Really amazing shot, so beautiful!! Was any part of your body underwater? Heheh! Lol.... I was on terra firma for this one, Sylvia. Ixi and I were having some chit-chat when suddenly, a big bird flew in from nowhere. It took us a few seconds to realize that the arrival was the goose, so everybody ran to his/her gear and began shooting. I was lucky to have my combo set for BIFs and I just pointed it at the bird and let loose. We missed much of the bird's approach flight though. And by the way, since everyone will most likely take a look at this post, we have a new name for the Org. However, let's wait for the poll to run its course (and also to give others a chance to vote) before we make an official announcement.

It was nice to see the Master at work this morning. We were indeed having idle chit chat when someone shouted "There it is! Ang laki!" Romy turned to his camera and "rat-tat-tat---" he shot it good! I was so taranta that I did not get a single shot! I just stared at the goose... Romy makes it look so darn easy! I just have to keep on practicing! As usual, awesome shots Romy!
