I have this photo of a leafbird from Palawan and I tried to find a way to get it more presentable. The problem is the bird's color is the same shade as it's surroundings. To highlight the bird I tried several blur options and the one that appealed to me was the "Radial Blur". Original cropped and resized, brightness and contrast adjusted. Blurred BG using Radial Blur - zoomHere's the steps. 1. PP using your normal work flow 2. duplicate layer 3. on the upper layer isolate the bird (I used "Quick selection tool, you can use any of the other tool i.e. lasso, magic wand, etc.) 4. When the subject you want is highlighted already click the "Add Layer Mask" button at the bottom of the layers pallet, to mask the BG of the upper layer and the BG of the lower layer will be visible. 5. Go to the lower layer, make sure it is highlighted. 6. Go to Filter -> Blur -> Radial Blur, blur method - zoom, amount - I used 20 on this one, Quality - Best 7. Move the Blur center to where you want the effect to originate. 8. Merge and save I also stamped out blown out areas first, using the "Patch tool" set to "source".
