Canon 50D 100-400mm@400 1/350 f5/6 iso200 I've isolated the White-Collared Kingfisher and the Dragonfly and retained their original color in separate layers using lasso, then converted the entire picture in one layer into BW. This picture, composition and style, emphasizes the vanishing habitat and environment of our wildlife, and calls upon the viewer to make life colorful by conserving and protecting the environment and wildlife. Taken in San Juan, Batangas on July 30, 2009.

What a very nice composition! It has a dramatic impact and the picture alone can tell a story.

Beautifully presented, Alain. I can see the passion. The picture can create a stir- a great tool for environmental awareness. For sure it will educate. The cropping is well done, the look on the face of the KF was well captured. Thanks for sharing. telyds

There are many ways to isolate a subject - DOF control (melting the BG while leaving the subject sharp), the use of leading lines, natural framing (ex. branches), creative lighting (ex. spotlight effect, everything else is dark but the subject) and color isolation (like your photo). The technique is very effective here because the BG is not very colorful anyway, great job Alain!

Thank you Elvin, Telyds and Ka Mastah. This style is one of my favorites and hope to master color isolation to appropriate pictures.
