I'm currently looking for a good 24" 1920x1200 LCD display (any of the following models) so I can edit/play my 1080p video natively.
1. HP LP2475w
2. Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP
These panels sell for under USD 700 online, but I can't find any local supplier.
My Viewsonic VX2025wm (PVA panel, with decent 176 degrees viewing in H/V, compared to 178 degrees H/V of the said Dell) calibrates very well with my Monaco Optix XR, and my prints perfectly match what I (and Pogito) see on my screen. Unfortunately, this LCD is only 1680x1050 and not large enough to display 1920x1080 HDV.
Anybody knows a local source of the said 24-inchers?

List of S-IPS www.pchardwarehelp.com/guides/s-ips-lcd-list.phpAFAIK the only S-IPS easily bought here are from Apple. The Apple Cinema Displays (not the LED one) use DVI ports and works with Windows. I have to agree, the TN-based LCDs are of little use for serious image work.

Thanks for the link, Paolo. Both S-IPS (ca. 178 degrees viewing angle) and PVA (ca. 176 deg. VA) are acceptable to me, and I've narrowed down my choice to the said Dell or HP. On a PC, the lack of manual RGB controls on the Apple Cinema Displays makes it almost impossible to calibrate these panels to optimum levels. My only problem now is where to buy one locally. ;D

Try emailing figief@northgate.com.ph or jess_enriquez@ptsiphil.com they may be able ot help.

Try emailing figief@northgate.com.ph or jess_enriquez@ptsiphil.com they may be able ot help. Calibration addresses: 1. White point - the individual red, green and blue pixels should be natively adjustable in the panel itself. The colorimeter (or hardware calibrator) has the flexibility to remove color casts if it can vary the native R, G and B values. This can't be done via the video card controls. 2. White Point Luminosity - the brightness and contrast controls in the panel itself allows the adjustment of this parameter. Without native, analog controls on the LCD display itself for the R, G, B, contrast and brightness, calibration and profiling can not be done competently. Some small PC shops import these displays once in a while, as I've seen an earlier model Dell 24" in Park Square-I last year. Unfortunately, they don't stock these regularly and hence I posted here and at Pipho hoping that somebody might have run across one. Buying online has some complications - custom duties, and the fact that any defect is very difficult to rectify.

Above mentioned emails are contemporaries of PhilData and get stocks from local authorized distributors. PC stores in the malls import these specialty items themselves or through unauthorized channels. So warranty may just be lip service.

Grey units or even slightly used ones are ok, as long as I can check the unit for obvious defects and dead pixels before committing purchase.

Wow..... I got a quote from ICS, a local HP reseller, and SRP of the HP LP2475w is PHP 72K, with a 2-3 weeks delivery time as they have to bring it in from SG!!! This monitor is selling for USD 550.00 at amazon: www.amazon.com/LP2475W-24in-LCD-Monitor-1920X1200/dp/B001FS1LLIIn this wired world, I wonder why such pricing still exists.

For that price, you could take a weekend in SG, maybe try for the Blue-winged Pitta in the parks and then buy two of those monitors ;D

Thanks mastah! A bigger LCD monitor is in my long list of things to buy ... financials-permitting. You made my life a little easier, by limitting choices to these two models. From my neck of the woods, the Dell is cheaper and more popular than the HP. If only HP did not buy our company, I would still be buying the Dell. But I have no choice but to support my new employer's products. Hehehe. But I'm not seeing any employee discount to this particular (HP) model. (Sigh) Just wondering which is better, the IPS (HP) or the PVA (Dell) panel.

Typhoon, typhoon, go away, my IPS monitor is on the way.
Now, if you need to send down a lightning bolt or two, please avoid hitting an inbound UPS plane in the next 24 hours or so. ;D ;D ;D Yeeeehaaaaa!!!!!!!! Thanks! Just to update this thread and for reference of others, my Philips 24" IPS LCD is already at Clark Customs and should be delivered by UPS to my doorstep tomorrow. Here's the total costing: 1. Pricing delivered to my sister's house at SG = SGD 744.00 2. UPS air freight, with insurance (1-2 days delivery) = SGD 164.00 Total landed cost = SGD 908.00 @ PHP 33.20/SGD = PHP 30,145.60 Add taxes and duties = PHP 8,811.00 Total cost = almost PHP 39,000.00 This is far cheaper than the PHP 80K ++ that the HP 24" was quoted by a dealer, and a bit less than the PHP 46K (2 months delivery) quoted by my importer. If one is travelling to SG anyway and checks in the item, SGD 739.00 (ex-store) is less than PHP 25K, assuming that one can get a free ride through customs. Will post my user-review when I get the display.
