Thanks, Des. I am also having trouble distinguishing both warblers as Awen from the previous Id post. Can you give us insight on what to look for to tell them apart? Despite the descriptions, they still look the same to me.

Thanks for the id Des. I am also having trouble distinguishing both warblers. Can you give us insight on what to look for to be able to identify or separate these two? I've been looking it up online and only got me more confused.

I am not sure but it looks like a warbler of some sort but couldn't find one that matches the characteristics. This was the only shot I had of the bird though. taken just at the outskirts of surigao city 4/22/2014, the bird perched on a house being built on a marsh by the road.

Thanks sir! I can't believe I missed that. I will have to go back and get views and photos if I get lucky. I still heard them the second time I went there for crimson sunbirds.

I kept hearing that call in the background that sounds like a Collared Kingfisher but with an ascending pattern. I couldn't find any record of that same call. Please help. This was in Sinsin, Cebu. March 27th, 2014. Taken in the afternoon around 3.

Hi, new to birding, but I would like to give my take on this. First bird is a reed-warbler, not sure if it is Oriental or Clamorous. But I'm leaning towards Oriental. 2nd bird is a female Chestnut-cheeked Starling, I think.

Thanks for the reply Des! I just looked it up and it does look like a juvenile GFB. I hope it's not asking too much, but I'd like to know what to look for to be able to distinguish these from the sparrowhawks or at least know why you considered the GFB. As you can tell I still have a lot to learn.

Went back to the same spot where I found the Reed warblers this morning. ID confirmed through call: Oriental Reed Warbler reference: Avibase

I have confirmed the ID of the cisticola. I went back to that same spot and found four of them doing that characteristic up and down flight and making that knocking-two-pebbles-sound call. Edit: I also took pictures and confirmed that their tails had white tips. So I now have the Zitting Cisticola in my list. That leaves only the Warbler above for IDing. I would really appreciate it if someone could ID it for me. I am leaning towards Oriental, but I am not sure.

Taken in Cebu, SRP area, behind the new seaside mall SM construction site. Jan. 21, 2014 There's a good birding spot there. If you happen to drop by Cebu, visit that area in SRP behind the DPWH building and behind the SM construction site. You can get there from Mambaling, there's a road to the right as soon as you cross the bridge by the UC maritime campus. That access road leads south back to the highway to the second bridge. Good time would be in the morning when it's low tide. I also need help with the bird below. This was taken in SRP still, Jan. 17, 2014, just in front of the new Lantaw restaurant there. I only have two photos of the bird, since it loves to skulk. Edit: I'm beginning to think the photos below are of two different birds. But they were taken on the same spot. Second photo was taken 9 minutes after the first one.

Hi! First post for me. New to Birding, just started last November. I need help ID-ing these birds. First bird, looks like a Warbler.. sorry those are the only photos I have of it. I get the feeling it will remain a mystery bird. This was taken in Cebu, Manipis/Sinsin. Feb. 8, 2014. It was way up the canopy. Second bird is a raptor, my best guess is it's a juvy Besra but could also be something else. The video doesn't show much of the mesial stripe. But the photo below will show you the stripe. Taken in Cebu, Mountainview Nature's park, Feb. 16, 2014. Saw this guy land on that branch when I turned towards the trees looking for white-eyes. Here's another shot with the side of the face. Not sure if it will help.
