Beautiful! You can even see the growth bars in the tail, and a possible moult stage in the secondaries.

Very nice! I hope you are able to record the details of the moult sequence of this species too :-)

I agree with Tonji. Note the short tail. Also the Kennedy guide lists LBC as 15cm (6") but Oriental at 30cm (12"). That is a very very big difference :-)

Sadly it is a domesticated duck, bred from a Mallard I would say. But you may hit gold with the next one :-)

Romy, it will have to go before the Rarities Committee but to me it looks just like a Saunders's Gull and I know of no other records (and I am not alone)

Thanks Romy. The stubby black bill is the obvious feature, but the wing patterns above and below confirm it. Des

A nice view of the upper wing would be nice. Is it still around and twitchable?

Yes it looks like migrant race Oriental Honey Buzzard to me. The Philippine Bulbuls may have come from Banton - ssp philippinus, or Panay - ssp guimarasensis, but apparently not from Mindoro. Time marches on and I have to confess to 2 misIDs here. The bulbul is a Tablas-Romblon Streak-breasted Bulbul, so there is no need to worry! The raptor is a Grey-faced Buzzard. Des
