I recently acquired a Tamron 100-400 Zoom. I bought it mainly for its weight (getting old, really) and versatility as well as the very reasonable price - Php 41K. Even the Canon 400 mm f/5.6L prime now costs around 74K, and the Canon 100-400 L Mark 2 Zoom costs much more! The Tammy also has Vibration Control, and that is really a good thing! I tried it out at my favorite haunt, Jugan Fishponds, and I was pretty surprised at the AF speed and accuracy of the lens. I dare say its AF acquisition is as fast as my Canon 400 mm f/5.6L, and the sharpness and quality of it's captures are very good. AF Tracking is as good as I am able to keep the subject in the focus zone and, paired with h Nikon D500, it is very accurate! My sharpening routine may have to be toned down a bit 'coz I feel the Tammy is sharper than the Nikon 200-500, which has been my favorite birding lens for several months now. Here are some sample shots - all taken with the D500 Body: (ƒ/6.3 @ 400.0 mm; 1/1000; ISO-450)In the Water- Square by Grandpa@50, on Flickr (ƒ/7.1 @ 400.0 mm; 1/400 ISO-200)Framed by Grandpa@50, on Flickr (ƒ/6.3 @ 400.0 mm; 1/2000 ISO-560)Yellow-vented Bulbul by Grandpa@50, on Flickr Some BIF's: (ƒ/6.3 @ 400.0 mm; 1/2000; ISO-220)Egret In Flight by Grandpa@50, on Flickr (ƒ/7.1 @ 400.0 mm; 1/2500; ISO-280)Tern in Flight by Grandpa@50, on Flickr All shots were taken hand-held with VC turned 'ON". To God be all the Glory!
