I'm exploring a wide grassy expanse at the remote western portion of Sto. Tomas (La Union), bordering the South China Sea. The grassy area is surrounded by ricefields and fishponds. A short visit on November 10, 2016 rewarded me with a documentary capture of a Sand Martin, my 281st lifebird. I also got an interesting small raptor which is yet for identification. I'll go back to the same place in the next few days to get better captures of the Sand Martin, and hopefully the raptor shows itself again.
Sand Martin ( Riparia riparia, migrant) Habitat - Rare, often associated with rivers, lakes and marshes. Shooting Info - Sto. Tomas, La Union, Philippines, November 10, 2016, EOS 7D MII + EF 400 DO IS II, 400 mm, f/5.0, 1/2000 sec, ISO 320, manual exposure in available light, hand held, 100% crop (actual pixel view). FOR ID. This raptor, to my eyes, is noticeably smaller than a Peregrine Falcon. Could it be another Amur Falcon? Or a Eurasian Kestrel? Or (gasp) a Merlin? Any help on the ID will be appreciated. Shooting Info - Sto. Tomas, La Union, Philippines, November 10, 2016, EOS 7D MII + EF 400 DO IS II + 1.4x TC III, 560 mm, f/6.3, 1/2000 sec, ISO 320, manual exposure in available light, hand held, major crop resized to 1500 x 1000.

I emailed the experts regarding the raptor ID, and Rob Hutchinson was the first to reply. He said it could be an immature Northern Hobby ( Falco subbuteo). I quickly did a Google photo search, and this one from Oriental Bird Images, to my untrained eyes, appear to be a match. Looking forward to a confirmation of the ID. (Edited the thread title to include the provisional ID of the raptor.)

Thanks, Tonji! My lifers usually come one per year, so getting a couple in a short sortie is unbelievable.
