Happy Easter Birdnuts! I went out to Gawahon Eco Park with friends from Negros Bird Conservation Club to try again for the fifth time on this species. We were lucky this time he showed up even if there's lots of visitors on Easter Sunday. This is the subspecies nigrirostris endemic to Negros, Panay and Cebu. Probably extinct in the wild in Cebu. This subspecies is now elevated to full species after a split from the Indigo Banded Kingfisher in Luzon now Northern Indigo Banded Kingfisher (del Hoyo, J., Collar, N. & Kirwan, G.M. (2016).
