This water bird was flying low over the fishponds of Sto. Tomas (La Union) and it got so close that parts of it almost went out of the frame. Grey Heron ( Ardea cinerea, migrant) Habitat - Uncommon in wetlands. Shooting Info - Sto. Stupendous shot of that bird Ka Mastah! I've found that the 7D2's sensor is very good if lighting is nice, but if it's a dull day, it seems to struggle. Did you notice this too? Meantime, while your Grey flew low, mine flew right above me this morning at Jugan! Hope you don't mind my jumping in this thread :-) 7D2 with 400mm 5.6L Grey Heron In Flight by Grandpa@50, on Flickr Not as spectacular as your shot, but that's why you are Ka Mastah! Regards!

Thanks, Doc William, Ka Bobby and Tateo-san! Stupendous shot of that bird Ka Mastah! I've found that the 7D2's sensor is very good if lighting is nice, but if it's a dull day, it seems to struggle. Hehehe, you still have your great reflexes Ka Bobby, nice catch! Looks like it panicked when it realized you were pointing something at him. Yes, the 7D II's AF slows down a bit when light levels get low, but this is not unique to this body. Even my 1D4 and 5D3, and also my old 1D2, behave similarly. With the 400 DO II though, I can remove the 1.4x TC and shoot at f/4. This allows the AF sensors to get twice the light over f/5.6, and AF speed improves significantly in lower light. That said, the king of low light AF in my stable is the 400 2.8 IS (and my 70-200 2.8 IS II as well). When naked on any body, these lenses can AF well in AI servo even in very low light. I couldn't hand hold the big white, nor have enough reach with the zoom, though.

Thanks for the response Ka Mastah, and the very useful information. I really noticed this slow-down of the AF on the 7D2 in dull, low light conditions. In great lighting, this camera just almost magically knows where to focus and track!
Hope we can bird together again soon! :-)
