Just before entering the gates of La Paz Waterfalls Garden Ariel & I saw this Crimson-collared Tanager. For a 7 inch bird and at 25.5 meters it was kind of far for our lenses. I wanted to have some souvenir shots of this bird and it came okay for documentary purposes. But the memory of the fun we had at this place is partly in this picture. Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM with Canon Extender 2X II. Gitzo GT3530LS tripod, Wimberley WH200 head. Manual exposure in available light. 1/320 sec, f/5.6, ISO 400 1/320 sec, f/5.6, ISO 400 This is the Avocado tree with its small fruit that the Resplendent Quetzal is very fond of. I remember taking the pictures of a Quetzal regurgitation the seed of an avocado that he must have eaten a couple of hours ago. Here is the thread of the Respendent Quetzal: birdphotoph.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=worldbirds&action=display&thread=85101/100 sec, f/5.6, ISO 400

These are definitely much better photos than the one I took. This specie also has eluded me from the beginning. I'm not sure if I still have time to go out and look for this elusive tanager. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing! We always want to take pictures of birds that we have never seen before but it does not come easy. So when the opportunity presents itself we should always try to make the best of it. If you missed this one there would be others that will come by. Pura Vida.
