My Costa Rican friend Andres sent me an email this week and informed me that the weather in Perez Zeledon has been excellent lately. Andres is one of the staff that works in Los Cusingos. I drove almost four hours just to get there but along the way there were rains and thick fogs. I arrived at the site at around 9AM and quickly set up my gears. Among the usual birds that can be seen there, I was happy to see and be able to photographed this beautiful Golden-naped Woodpecker, a new lifer for me. This is the female 7D+400mm f/5.6L lens, 1/200s, ISO 640 And here's the male. 1/500s, ISO 640

That was certainly a long drive but I can understand the difficulty in driving in the rain and fog. How is Andres? We keep in touch and he told me that he bought a second hand body and lens. It is remarkable that you were able to get both the male and female Golden-naped Woodpecker. As usual the male colors are fantastic. We did not see that one when we were there. They are beautiful and it looks like you were able to get close. Well done Ariel & Mabuhay.

Thanks Ely. Andres is doing fine. He told me that you sends him emails. I also met Guillermo, the guide we met at San Gerardo. He also told me that you send him emails about your photos.
