Aloha, I am very happy to find this forum and particularly excited because I am of Filipino ancestry [half] but have never visited the homeland... Now, through this forum I can meet and see the beautiful land of the Phillipines as I seek to learn bird photography! I am totally new to all of this and just purchased a XTi with 18-55mm kit lens and a 70-200mm f/4L IS USM + Canon 1.4x/TC... I hope to purchase a larger lens within a couple years like a Canon 400mm or 500mm Prime for Bird Photography... I'm here to meet new friends and learn about techniques and view some of your incredible work! Aloha to all my Filipino brothers! Rolando

Thank you my friend for the warm welcome! I'm definitely a bird nut after viewing many images on the internet... I'm going to go to Africa in a few weeks with my 18 yr old son to do a Safari hunt and hopefully take some images of their varied bird population especially... Hopefully my friends here can help me on the learning curve on short notice with some basic tips and/or a tutorial... I am in awe of the talent and skill here! Rolando

Thank you my friends for the warm welcome! Yes, I hope I can pull off some images with my DSLR despite my newbie-ism, so my son is bring our new P&S Pentax Optio as back-up just in case... ;D I look forward in sharing those images with you when we get back... Rolando

Hi Rolando, Welcome to the nest. You have a short lens that can do very well with butterflies. When there are no birds in sight, take note of the lovely flitters and forget the predators for a while. There is a thread here that says "For Ate Lyds". That's the butterfly thread. Spider thread... Adri should start one, he is a bird-nut for real but a secret spiderman.

Welcome to the forum, Rolando. I'm also relatively new to this forum, and I haven't met any of the members here. Same as you, I'm new to bird photography -- I couldn't identify birds like our masters here, I just love taking photos of them. But it has started to change, with the help of the masters here, I'm starting to keep track of the names and species of the birds I have captured. Wow, an African Safari trip! That's my ultimate photography dream. Good luck and enjoy. Looking forward to seeing your photos.
