This morning, as we arrived at the field overlooking the orange flowering tree at 3,300 feet above sea level in Mt. Banahaw, we noticed 2 small, blue and white birds in a tree about 70-80 meters away. They would not let us get close to them. They were male Blue-and-white Flycatchers - a rare migrant and a lifer for me! ;D Unfortunately, due to the distance, I could only take documentary photos. Canon 1D Mark IV, Canon 800 mm lens, Canon 1.4x teleconverter, tripod and half-gimbal.

I cannot described how beautiful the song of this bird is. If you ever heard of the Striated Grassbird it sings continuously in a sing song melody. The Blue & White is a lot better than that. The flycatchers has a habit of staying in the same place for days. You may want to try again tomorrow. It is a beautiful bird. Good discovery Ramon & Mabuhay.

Great record there Ramon! I've seen these a few times on Makiling, particularly this winter, but never an adult male. I think they might be more regular than we realise, we just need to get into the right habitat more often.
I'll be there tomorrow morning if you're around.

Thanks, Ely. You just talked me into going back up tomorrow morning. Hopefully, I'll see the BWF again and it lets me come closer.

Ely and Paul, I went up Mt. Banahaw early this morning to the same area where I saw the Blue-and-White Flycatchers yesterday -- but no luck. In fact, the low pressure system hitting Luzon made it cold, rainy and very windy, so that there were very few birds to be seen.

It would be like hitting the jackpot if it was there. Not your luck this time but there is always a next time. Look at it this way, you saw it the other day and it made you feel good. Now you have something to look forward to next week. The weather also play a big part for the birds to come out. Cheers Ramon.

Great bird Ramon.
We saw this bird in Palay Palay in 2009. Adult and sub adult male and a female.
It is a beauty.

Thanks, Borgz. I don't know if Blue-and-White Flycatchers, which migrate from Japan and the north, fly down as far as Mindanao.
