A mixture of many things and activities over the last five months of 2011 has caused my birding here in Samar lackluster. The unpredictable weather, forest flashfloods, more wedding and event shoots were just some of those things. Anyways, for this year, i think it will be more exciting and enjoyable as it was started with a big luck! ---a close encounter with this tough-looking Silvery Kingfisher. Silvery Kingfisher (Alcedo argentata, A Philippine endemic) Taken in Samar Island Natural Park after an overnight heavy rain Canon EOS7D, ef100-400mm f4.5-5.6L, @400mm, f5.6, ISO800, 1/60, gimbal/tripod support By the way, it's good to be back here! thanks

Very nice! The Silvery Kingfisher on Bohol, Samar, Leyte etc has been proposed as a split from the Silvery Kingfisher of Mindanao. Nice photos like this help in the assessment. Any photos of forest birds from Samar are especially interesting.

Thanks Mark, DrBoyMac, Ariel. really a pure luck for this SKF landed just in front from where am hiding (in ghillie suit). Am actually expecting for a possible shot of Sailfin Water Lizard that crosses the river/stream that time but this SKF, without prior appointment, simply flew in for a portraiture session with me DocBoyMac, same spot where we waited for the SKF and possible PDKF
