Am wondering if this an Intermediate or Great Egret. Thought Inter at first but now unsure. Thanks for looking. _K0C0434 by Mick Harris, on Flickr

Hi Mick,
The gape of your bird terminates beyond the eyes - Great Egret.
Usually based on size the great egret is a lot bigger but without comparison, the gape character is the most accurate to differentiate the two egrets.

Hi guys, it looks to me that the gape terminates on a line with the rear of the eye. This is very consistent with Intermediate. The bill is not specially long in relation to the head and the neck is very Intermediate in length. The bill may have a dusky tip. All in all I would go for Intermediate.

Thanks Des, I've just looked at other shots of the same bird and compared it to shots of a Great Egret I took. In all the other shots the gape appears more obviously to end in line with the rear of the eye and the bird itself seems less elongated than in the Great. Thanks again, Mick.
