My caretaker in BK Valley, Mt. Banahaw took these photos of a dead Cuckoo that unfortunately had flown into a glass window of my house, probably going after the moths and other bugs that gather at night. Very sad to see. It appears to have the coloration and vertical dark brown streaks on the breast of a Large Hawk-Cuckoo ( Cuculus sparverioides, which according to the KG is 16 inches long), but it was only reportedly 9 inches long (not actually measured) or about the size of a Brush Cuckoo ( Cacomantis variolosus), although it did not have the coloration of a Brush Cuckoo. ID please? Today, I checked the PBPF photo gallery and saw this photo of an immature Philippine Hawk-Cuckoo ( Cuculus pectoralis), an uncommon resident and 11.5 inches long for adults. This looks like a match. For confirmation please. According to the KG, some authors have split the Philippine birds off from the Hodgson's Cuckoo ( Cuculus fugax) and call it the Philippine Hawk-Cuckoo. I wish I had seen this bird alive and well, as it would have been a lifer for me. This is the 4th species of cuckoo seen in BK Valley.

Thanks for the confirmation, Ely.
I checked your earlier posting of the PHC, and your photos are truly exceptional.
