BIRDS OF THE PHILIPPINES
Photo Exhibit by the Philippine Wild Bird Photography (PWBP)
1st Asian Bird Festival
September 24-25, 2010; Waterfront Insular Hotel, Davao City
1. History
The Photo Exhibit recently held was the 5th Photo Exhibit by members of the PWBP and Philippine Bird Photography Forum (PBPF) since the 1st Philippine Bird Festival was held in 2005.
The first photo exhibit was held during the 1st or 2nd Philippine Festival in Quezon City. The second was held at the Vargas Hall of the University of the Philippines in Diliman. The third was at the National Museum under the title "Jewels of the Philippines," while the fourth was at the Senate in partnership with the Office of Senator Edgardo Angara to showcase the the birds of Aurora.
2. Preparations and Installation
Romy Ocon has appointed Alain Pascua to be the Project Coordinator for this fifth photo exhibit. Rey Sta. Ana, Neon Rosell II and Tina Mallari were designated as the Selection Committee that chose the pictures to be featured.
Available frames used during the UP Vargas, National Museum and the Senate exhibits were collected for the Davao exhibit, while new ones coming from other photographers were chosen for inclusion from a list of pictures submitted for consideration.
For the new frames selected, JT and DPI were recommended to be the printer agencies, while a framer in Teacher's Village, QC has been recommended for box-type framing of the pictures.
KAAKBAY Volunteers from Quezon City and Mandaluyong Chapters helped in packing the frames and in the air freight cargo. While KAAKBAY Delegates Nonie Jeruta and Jonard Gabrino, KAAKBAY Davao Chapter Volunteers helped in installing the frames together with Alain Pascua, Neon Rosell II and Nilo Arribas.
Bislig City Vice Mayor Conrad Cejoco worked out the provisions for the panel boards and lightings with the Davao City government, in coordination with Wild Bird Club of the Philippines (WBCP) and the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF)

3. Photo Exhibit
19 PWBP Members contributed frames for the exhibit. A total of 102 frames were displayed and featured.
Here is the announcement tarp that was made for the exhibit:
21 frames out of the 102 ftrames were frames of pictures of birds recently taken in Bislig City. The printing and framing of the 21 frames were sponsored by Bislig City Vice Mayor Conrad Cejoco. As such, a portion of the exhibit was dedicated solely for the birds of bislig and an announcement tarp was also made for ths:
The exhibit features 4 sides involving 6 panels each, with additonal 2 stone walls.
The first side features the works of Ivan Sarenas, Nicky Icarangal, Adri Constantino, Jun Osano, Bob Kaufman, Gabriel Buluran, Toto Gamboa, JV Noriega and Alain Pascua
The second side features the works of Nilo Arribas, Bob Kaufman, and the 21 pics of Bislig City contributed by Rey Sta. Ana, Nilo Arribas, Clemn Macasiano, Ely Teehankee and Alain Pascua.
The third side features the works of Neon Rosell II, Tina Mallari, Rey Sta. Ana, Ralf Nabong, Armando Somintac, Dennis Alfaro and Mark Itol.
The above pic also shows a portion of the first side.
The fourth side features the works of Nicky Icarangal, Adri Constantino, Nilo Arribas, Rey Sta. Ana, Neon Rosell II, Jun Osano and Gabriel Buluran.
The above picture also shows a portion of side 2 of the exhibit.
The original plan was to have the frames shown on a per photographer basis but since the panels offered very limited space, we have to allocate the joining areas of the panels for vertical frames to maximize space, and feature a combination of horizontal and vertical frames for the main panel sides, while trying to group together frames belonging to the same photographer. But since this is not possible at all, some frames of photographers were separated from their groupings.
Some frames of Bob Kaufman were places at the bottom of the panel since the hooks of his frames cannot carry the total load of two or three more frames below/above.
The 10 frames of the Philippine Eagle by Alain Pascua were supposed to be displayed at the KAAKBAY Booth at the main exhibit/activity area at the grounds but the openness of the area and the winds pose threats to the frames stability. The frames were tentatively placed in between frames at the bottom before they were supposed to be placed at the KAAKBAY booth, but when the conditions were not encouraging and we have positive feedbacks from ordinary people on the portraits, they remained to be displayed there as added attractions.
