On this thread I see no halo on the other thread both have halo. Honestly it doesn't bother me so I wouldn't sweat it. ;D

Edu, the KF still has a faint glow on my monitor, though now quite within tolerable levels. Glows/haloes are basic errors in PP and when you visit Naturescapes, this is among the more common critiques given by the ace birdshooters there. On some monitors (TN panel or uncalibrated or both), very slight variation of tones might not be visible. There's a trick you can use to check if there are haloes, even on a TN monitor. Just darken the midtones temporarily using the levels tool, and voila.... things will be apparent, including sharpening haloes. You can just press the back button later after checking. Here's your photo, first is as posted, then with levels 0, 0.3, 255.

Great Shots Edu! From experience it will take a long time before the heron will be able to swallow the fish but it will.

This is certainly an easy way of getting to see the halo. Thank you Romy for the very simple and clear explanation. I am sure that Edu will appreciate it too.

Great Shots Edu! From experience it will take a long time before the heron will be able to swallow the fish but it will. I wasn't able to see it swallow the fish. It flew off with it. And it was such a sight to behold that I wasn't able to take a photo.

i can see it mastah!!! Wow this has turned to be some kind of a tutorial thread and the learning is incredible! I pray your "teaching mode" lasts longer. I inspected my rig and found the culprit. Indeed the sharpness (in camera) was set higher than normal (+3) as last Saturday I was shooting pics of my 2nd son's Family Day. So the culprit really is, I forgot BUT.. without you mentioning it I would have not have thought that the halo was from aggressive sharpening. Thank you so much Mastah! Will apply the changes and see if i can produce better photos.

Now am experimenting with using PP to save the oversharpened photos..

I think I was able to control the halo on the rocks.. but not on the breast area.. darn.. a good reason to just go back and shoot again.

now I think I botched the white balance or am I just unconsciously making up more reasons to go back?
