Thanks Jonas for posting your sound recordings here. I'm no expert in bird vocalization but I'll give it a try, the first sound is, I think, that of a frog, and I have no idea what bird is the second recording. I'll be anxiously waiting for the experts' replies. Your recordings are very clear what sound recording equipment did you use and if you did some post processing on the captured sound? Cheers, Neon

I agree with Neon about the first one not being a bird. The second one sounds like Yellow-bellied Whistler. (This is in the solved section of XC)

Thanks for comments on my recordings. I also had the feeling that the first recording was not really a bird. I was thinking it could be an insect, a frog wasn't really on my mind, but I guess you are right.
I agree that the she second one can be a Yellow-bellied Whistler. I can't find any recordings of the Mindanao race (apoensis), and I don't know if there are much variation among the different races.
You might be surprised when I'm telling that these recordings are made by using the video function on my pocket camera (Canon IXUS 85). I'm simply amazed by the excellent quality of the videos made by this camera. The sound is very clear, and I use a software called AoA Audio Extractor to create mp3 files from the video file.

YB whistlers have a variety of calls/songs, much beyond the upwardly inflected single note taht is characteristic. I do my sound recording now on my Canon XHA1, but with a Sennheiser plugged in

Hi Jonas, I'm no expert but I'll have a go at this. I've linked the sounds url to the numbers just click on the number to go directly to the sound recording window. 1961 - I'm just really guessing here, I think its a cuckoo sp., or Koel? 1959 - Spotted dove 1960 - too constant for a bird call, maybe a frog's 1007 - cuckoo sp. I think Philippine Hawk Cuckoo? By the way, where were these sounds recorder from? It would greatly help the experts here if the locations from where you've taken the sounds are stated. Cheers, Neon

Thanks Neon! I forgot to say that you can see the location for the recordings by clicking "view" for each sound one the page. My last three recordings are all from Shrine Hills, Matina, Davao City, Mindanao. Recorded in the middle of July this year.
