He-he. Were u kidding by sending us a Japanese webpage? Or u can read Kanji and forgot that we don't? Ahhh...but with the wonders of technology, this is not a problem. According to Google Translate: -- Blurring hand optical correction system features integrated ultra-telephoto zoom of the two species to determine the price and release date. -- "APO 120-400mm F4.5-5.6 DG OS HSM" is 109,935 yen. Canon, released in late April for Sigma. Nikon, Sony, Pentax Corporation for the release date undetermined. -- "APO 150-500mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM" is yen. Canon, Sigma for release in early May. Nikon, Sony, Pentax Corporation for the release date undetermined. --------------------- Here's also an Amazon page on it. www.amazon.com/Sigma-150-500mm-Telephoto-Digital-Cameras/dp/B001542X6E/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1205616348&sr=8-1

Hi Balarila, sorry for that, I didn't presume however most people just do a google language which is what I did but I was afraid that in posting I would lose the translation. Pops

Thanks for the links, Pops and Ding. The cheaper-than-expected price somehow makes me suspect that this new zoom is for the consumer market and the optical performance won't be Sigmonsterish. I hope I'm wrong though.... I'd like the adage YGWYPF (you get what you pay for) proved wrong this time.

Oh No! I have been seriously curious about this pricing, but I have no idea how to interpret the prices on that web page! Can anyone translate into roughly US dollars for me?
I noticed these are not `EX" Sigma lenses, Romy. You could be spot on about them being consumer grade lenses.

Hi, I got word yesterday that this lens is already available locally and it's price is quite tempting. I am hoping to read some reliable reviews. I'm curious how this lens compares with the Canon 100-400L and how it would perform on bird photography.

Here in Japan, the cheapest price I found is at Y 117000. At the current rate of roughly Y 1 = PhP 0.419, that's around PhP 49-50K. Really tempting, but I guess we'd have to wait for reviews.

Hi Tina and Mark.
The price quoted to me here is P45,500. Cheaper pa pala than Japan prices pa.
I agree Mark. I really have to resist the temptation and wait for reviews. Hopefully from our mastahs here. I have seen a couple of sets already from some online photo databases but I think I have yet to see photos that are at least close to the quality of photos I've been seeing here at PBPF.

Hi Tony, When buying lenses, I test two things: 1. AF calibration with my main DSLR. I set up three AA batteries diagonally to me, and shoot the middle one, using AF, at full zoom, wide open and just beyond the minimum focus distance (to come up with the thinnest DOF for the lens). The middle battery should be sharp, otherwise there's a back/front focus issue. 2. Most copies of the 100-400 are sharp at full zoom and f/8. Good copies are sharp at 400 mm even at f/5.6. A quick check if a 100-400 is a good copy is to shoot a detailed subject at f/5.6 and f/8. If the sharpness is similar, then the lens is good. Romy Hi Romy, I got this post from another thread. Would no. 2 also apply to all lenses? More specifically to the Sigma 150-500? I might have the chance to drop by later to take a look at the lens but honestly I don't know much about testing lenses. Many thanks in advance.

Yuhoooooo Neonnnnnn EHEM EHEM ;D Us people need to see photos and reviews please ;D Ok..OK.. ;D here are some initial field shot from this Bigma brother. Will make the full review when I get to do a full field test. When I was doing the battery test I thought it was focusing properly so I got it. But when I got to test it with a AAA battery with a 200 peso bill at the back, a noticeable back focus was evident. JT photo said that they can calibrate it when the firmware for calibrating this lens arrives. They said that it's their first batch, they still don't have the firmware to calibrate it. Here is the the battery with 200 peso bill test. 40D + Sigma 150-500mm APO DG OS f5-6.3 @ 500mm, f6.3, 1/250 sec, ISO 400, Hand held, On board flash, Raw converted to jpeg. Center Focused on the Bill - 100% cropped Center Focused on the AAA battery - 100% cropped And here is a field test shot on a Long Tailed Shrike at NIGS. 40D + Sigma 150-500mm APO DG OS f5-6.3 @ 500mm, f6.3, 1/500 sec, ISO 400, Hand held. Here's the Original unprocessed RAW converted to Jpeg. 100% Unprocessed Crop Cropped and PPed Looks like the lens focuses fast and will try it on some BIF.

Thanks for the update!! I've notice the slow shutter during the field test when I was on AI servo mode. I thought it was just due to slower shutter speeds I was using. Good that it's only a firmware upgrade to fix it. I'll post the field test in another thread.
