hello to everyone. i moved into hardin ng rosas at upd just last year. after noticing the variety of birds here, i began my pancit-canton-pandesal-diet to save up for an upgrade. now, i got a canon 30d and the magic drainpipe 80-200mm f2.8l plus kenko 2x. its short on the long end but i could get paper thin if i continued my diet. maraming salamat po. -armando somintac

Hahaha, nice intro there Armand! I agree that lens will be a bit short for some shots, but with the 2x, you'll be at 400 plus 1.6 crop, so you will still capture some birds, specially at Hardin. Welcome aboard, and enjoy the scenery :-)

Welcome aboard, Armand! The 80-200L is a very well-regarded medium tele - optically unequalled perhaps by even the newer 70-200L variations. It should still be excellent with a 1.4x and useable with a 2x (especially when stopped down to f/8 or so). Looking forward to your posts. Romy

Welcome to the "bird house"! Creative first post and a creative way of securing your equipment as well. Hmmmm.... what a brilliant idea. So do we all go for a pancit-pandesal diet? With that in mind, there are just a few here who can still splurge and eat-all-they-can! Hahaha!

Hello, Mando!
I believe you're the gentleman I had a long pleasant chat with at Hardin about two weeks ago? This is Ding Carpio, the guy who drives the filthiest white Vitara on earth.
Welcome!

Prop Mando. Magandang umaga po. I used to go to Hardin with a 200mm, tring hard. Well, you live so close and can monitor if the water birds are close by. Your lens can take good butterfly photos in case the birds keep on hiding.. If only people will not clear up the vegetation in Hardin, the butterflies will be present. I had photographed some butterflies there before. They like the blooms of the tree right in the middle fronting Mr. Francisco's field. I am willing to donate some nectar plants to pretty up the place if only someone can plant there. Welcome po. Lydia PS. I'd like to join the pancit-canton- pandesal-diet (with Adelinas ham). I hope we can have a breakfast EB in Hardin soon!

@sir neon2rosel hope to meet you too soon. @sir bob are the pandesal at calif also american sized? bindii'm loving the versatility of my lens especially when shooting sports events. @sir ding yep, that was me. i remember that day because i braved into the rice paddies and stepped on an ant hill. after a frantic attempt in shaking them off, my left slipper went off right into the middle of the rice plot. since i was not able to recover it, i also left the other slipper there and went home barefooted. @ma'am lydia i talked to some old timers here, they mentioned that a butterfly club use to visit before. i do agree that nectar plants are badly needed. though something has gotta be done about those pesky (but cute) goats. besides making the gardens at hardin their buffet, they're scaring off the munias.
