Have gone to San Juan, Batangas this weekend. The spot Tina and Neon know about is at the moment almost 100 % for Chinese egrets, savannah nightjars and oriental skylarks, among other birds. I am going with Tere and Alex T. this Saturday. Tere and Alex are staying for the weekend while I am going there just for the day. For Sunday, I am recommending to Tere and Alex to visit the Imelda mangrove preserve which is almost as extensive as the Olango preserve. I think they are staying somewhere along Laiya beach.

Note : This place is good for bird watchers but for bird photographers .... it is quite a challenge to photograph the birds because they are kinda far

Note : This place is good for bird watchers but for bird photographers .... it is quite a challenge to photograph the birds because they are kinda far I agree with Tina! But, if you're the type who likes to walk and stalk and enjoy crossing a flimsy wooden bridge, which Tina did , this is the place for you. I think it's worth going there for the nightjars, I'll go back there if I can find time. Cheers,

I am going on a trip to San Juan, Batangas on the morning of Wednesday this week, 12 Mar 08 to be back by mid-afternoon of the same day. I can accommodate two passengers if anyone is interested.
I intend to take a photograph of the black drongo we have spotted.
I have already discovered a way of getting close to the birds of the fishponds. One can get close to the pink-necked green pigeons when they are around. One can come close (3 meters away) to the savanna nightjars. There are about 20 oriental skylarks on one spot and they come to you about 2 to 3 meters away only; everyone is in breeding frenzy. Best of all, the black drongo (not any other drongo or cuckoo) comes around regularly to one spot and is probably together with another individual for their breeding schedule; the drongo we have spotted has chased away from a mango tree crows on at least two occasions.
Almost 100% probability are Chinese egrets, savanna nightjars, oriental skylarks, black drongo (at least one individual, possibly breeding pair), grey herons, whimbrel (at least one individual), and so many other birds. Also, possible tabon bird which is a regular early afternoons according to residents of the area.
My number is 0920-923-3263.
Actually, I need to go to San Juan, Batangas in order to sign some papers for a school of which I am a board member. Might as well, use the opportunity to bring other birders to the area.
Sincerely Yours,
propjerry
