The Cebu Flowerpecker just became a little less elusive. Seriously, I've given much thought to what should be the ideal gear to use to get the Cebu Flowerpecker. After hiking in Tabunan with Nilo and Raul way back in 2004, I think my choice will be a 7D plus either a 100-400 or naked 300 f4 IS - light enough for long walks and great for hand holding with the IS. I'm leaning slightly in favor of the 300 f4 IS because the extra stop of light might help if the environment is dark. No need to full frame the bird anyway, as any photo of it instantly becomes the best photo of the species throughout the universe.

The Cebu Flowerpecker just became a little less elusive. In Nilo's hands, Cebu birds will start appearing that much closer. ;D Ivan, I think the Sigmonster is overkill for a serious attempt on CFP. The size and weight of this beast can actually be a limiting factor in my opinion. Of course, as pointed out by Romy earlier...once mounted in an ideal environment, the new Sigmonster tamer will have very good shooting coverage within 50 meter radius. The flexibility of the zoom range of 300-800mm is unbeatable here. Nilo

There is hardly any place/spot to move around and so the flexibility of the setup should compensate of this. March should be a good time for another attempt on the CFP. My first sighting of this elusive bird was 3rd week of March several years ago... hehehe.... Nilo

I hope we can fix a schedule soon, Nilo! Meantime, here's the new Ms. Sigmonster Tamer. birdphotoph.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=5290Seriously, I've given much thought to what should be the ideal gear to use to get the Cebu Flowerpecker.
