Bong sounded excited when he was telling me that a pair of Java Sparrow were building their nest. It got me excited when he told me that he spent 6 hours photographing them. Ever since I was a kid I have always like them because of their prim & proper look. They look like they are dress for a formal. I was there at about 6 AM walking around and took some pictures of LTS, ETS, and BS. All very common birds but just to warm up and get ready. Soon I saw the pair of JS. They were sweet, loving, and care free. Prop Jerry who knew I was there inform me that Neon has just captured the BRT and so I joined them. Doc Mando was also there. He and Prop Jerry knows all the birds and their location in UP like the palm of their hand. The BRT did not come back but it was worth the trip because Neon taught me how to use the flash on several modes ETTL, Manual, & Multiply. This guy knows a lot of things. Thank you Neon. After experimenting with it I went back to the site of the JS. Sylvia soon arrives with Tina. Martin and Tonji also showed up. These guys are good and so I will post my pictures lest they become obsolete when they should post their pictures. The JS has a very cute dance where they hop up and down their perch before making love. I hope Romy, Neon, or Bong will be able to video them. The birds are just so wonderful. I also stayed there for 6 hours. Thank you Bong. An added feature to everyones delight was the appearance of the Colasisi. Interesting find! I never knew these birds would nest inside the hollow of trees! Great captures by the way! :-)

They really have to gather the pine needles one by one to build their nest. They live from day to day as they have no storage facilities. I hope that no harm will come to them especially when they have their young. Mabuhay. |

Awesome set Ely! Nice color and exposure on the 1st, 2nd & 3rd photos. I'm glad that you enjoyed observing and capturing their behavior. Too bad I did not have my 5DII with me last Sunday, but I did have tons of images capturing every movement of their intimacy. It's a pleasure sharing this find to my fellow birdnuts! I know they also have great captures of this beautiful pair. |

I see you posted the action shots! Quick on the trigger Mr.T, good job. I find it interesting when there are many people taking pictures, all the pictures turn out differently even if the subject is the same. Its fun to see what is interesting or catches the eye of the photographer. I can see by these pictures that you, sir, are into, ah...well...hmmm, lets call it bird behavior. Nice pics Ely, thank for posting and sharing. It was a pleasure taking pictures with you. |

Wonderful pictures from a very cool day! The Java Sparrow was one of the birds I really, really wanted to see. Then, to see a couple dancing, mating, making a nest and preening .. wow! Gotta love UP birding!

Wow, nice shots of oversize JS - Ely!!  I specifically went there today to video their love dance but it never materialized. It could be that they are over with that phase and now into laying egg and incubation. I would have stayed longer if not for some chores needed doing. |
