Hi! Thank you for approving my account! My name is Don David and I'm a newbie to the world of photography. I bought my first dslr just last May and immediately got hooked to photographing birds. Although I usually take photos from within our backyard, there are plenty of birds here because I live near Mt. Makiling. A close friend of mine who is a member of Wild Bird Club of the Philippines (WBCP) referred me to this site when he noticed me taking interest in bird photography. I really wish to learn more about bird photography from the pros in this forum and in return, I can help out with other things like computer hardware problems. Before photography, my hobbies were mountaineering, table tennis, precision and practical shooting and PC modding and overclocking. My newbie gear: Canon EOS 50D Kit(18-55mm) + grip EF 70-200mm F4L USM Speedlite 580EX II more about me: friendster & ym id: donx2@yahoo.com website: www.donsdavid.com(not updated) and www.rignoobies.com (as a co-founder)

Welcome aboard, Don....and nice first photo post!
I see that you are using the 70-200 f4. If you have no immediate plans of getting a longer lens yet, you can go for a 1.4x TC in the meantime to get to 280 mm with AF. You can also use such a TC with longer lenses later.

Hi Don, Welcome to the group!! I just came from Mt. Makiling yesterday. There are a lot of fruiting "tibig" trees inside the Botanic Gardens which are not yet ripe, this type of "tibig" with long fruiting branches are favorites of flowerpeckers. Would it be possible for you to visit the place and inform us if the FP are swarming the trees already. ;D Of course you get the first shots and even with a 200mm you can get near when they are feeding. I might also need your help, to assemble a faster rig for post processing photos and HD videos.
