Here's my try at going B&W, not the whole photo but just the BG of an unposted CKF from a SJ sortie last December 15, 2008. 40D + 600mm f4 IS + 2x Kenko TC, f4, 1/200, ISO 800, Manual Exposure, Tripod-Gimbal support, Near FF Here's the general steps I done to get this final product. 1. PP using my normal work flow. 2. Duplicate / make a layer. 3. On the upper layer, used "quick selection tool" to select the bird and the perch. 4. On the layers pallet, click on "layer mask" this will separate the bird from the BG of the upper layer and the BG of the lower layer will be visible. 5. Go to the lower layer, make sure the layer is highlighted 6. go to Image -> adjustments -> B&W, OK. This will make the BG B&W. 7. apply noise reduction to the BG layer. 8. Merge and save. These are just the basic steps you can still play around to your liking.

Hehe.... this board is for you Neon, to while away your time while in the middle of the sea pumping black liquid to make our birding wagons go. Very nice results.... I'm very curious to see how artworks like this look in print.
