Precious info!! Thank you both. I want to maximize my trip so I am planning as early as now. Has anyone been to Rasa to check out the Phil cockatoos? I believe you have to take a banca to get there. Wonder if its an easy trip or not. ;D

I am sure there are lots of guys here who have done this trip but for those who have not gone to the area here are some of my notes regarding transporting the gear. Manila to Puerto Princesa Airport- carry on pretty straight forward. Van transport to Sabang- again not a problem then it gets tricky. Sabang to Underground cave park area is via banca/ pumpboat- protect gear from rain, sea spray from waves, boarding and unboarding waves. Remember go really early. Be the first one there. Walking around the monkey trail- protect from rain, the trail is long and if you have a 500,600 or 800 with tripod its a very tough walk. Sylvia and our daughter did the whole thing in around 3+ hours without a big camera and had fun because they did not have gear. If you are going to bring the big guns, do the Underground park area then move to the other flat sections of the park via Banca/ pump boat. There is a section where they filmed Pinoy big brother which is flat. Then there is the section across the mangroves which is also flat. Mangrove area- small paddleboat. No place to put tripod so maybe your smaller lens for this area. We only have the 400 5.6 and 100-400 it was easy to take pics. Except we kept telling the boat guy, "ok forward a few inches, ack...enough...go back...there...ack...forward...ahhh there...accckkk. Why are we spinning? " Don't forget your waterproof cases in case it rains. A picture of the mangrove area. I use a waterproof hardcase. But I have a small rig. Oh and most important anywhere in Palawan. Bring OFF anti-mosquito lotion. It works so well, I use the 8 hour version. Bring it along especially in the jungle trails and the mangrove area. I can't emphasize this enough, it works, bring the stuff. I hope this helps.

Hi Tonji and Sylvia!
Congrats for a bountiful harvest from Palawan! Gee, I would like to go there too to bird!
Tonji, I reviewed your pictures as I undestand you use the 100-400mm mostly handheld and in AF, while Sylvia has the prime and in tripod. And I'm convince that the 100-400mm lens my nephew bought needs calibration. I also compared by Davao shots with those I've taken in Baler using another similar lens, and they really vary in sharpness. I guess I have to advise my nephew to let Canon calibrate it to have sharp pics.
Regards!
Alain
