I'm looking for the right tripod and head to carry my Canon 50D + 100-400mm + 2X TC setup.
Can anybody please suggest which head and tripod that is best for this setup? My preference is one that is light to carry around in our trekkings, but sturdy / strong to withstand strong winds, and can be used for BIFs.
Please post the brand and model and possible cost and where to buy, or if anybody is selling their second hand/used one.
Toto may also be interested in this query as his planned Canon shift may approximate this kind of setup.
Thanks for helping.

I notice most use a Manfrotto 393 Gimbal.

Yes, go for a Manfrotto 3421 (aka 393), plus the cheapest Manfrotto aluminum tripod you can buy with a capacity of 6-8 kg, or more. The local distributor of Manfrotto is Island Photo at Gamboa St., Makati City, and their prices are very reasonable (comparable to B&H pricing).
I personally like "flip-type" leg locks, as the "twist-type" leg locks take too long to set up. You may also get a ballhead instead of a gimbal head, but this will not be very useable at BIFs.
