These aesthetically excellent captures of a rarely seen, much less photographed, Philippine endemic are the easy choice for this week's featured bird photos. Good equipment, right birding skills, amazing shot execution (note the very slow shutter speeds used), and perhaps some dose of luck in being at the right place and time all contributed to the taking of the best in-habitat photos I've seen of this bird. I have only seen this bird two times. It seemed like a very difficult bird for photo purposes. The first time it was in the shadows. The second time the bird was perched waaayyy too far, my pic ended up looking like the heart of a banana tree, not a bird.
JP and Martin, your pictures make capturing this bird look easy. In my opinion, exceptional bird photography skills were needed to take these pictures. You guys are an inspiration. Thanks for sharing these great photos.
These photos are also highlighting the excellent Nikon gear. Fantastic.
