Hello everyone, Im Johnn from Cebu, and I have been into birding and photography for quite a long time. Birds has been my passion since I was a kid, and photography since 7 years ago. I'm very happy to have found this forum especially since this is a merge between two of my passions. AGE I love birding but no one around my age actually understands my passion. I sometimes have difficulty sharing my experiences with anyone since I only have my uncle (Tito Raul Puentespina one of the authors for Birds of Cebu and Bohol) to talk to and he's not even around most of the time.
MONEYAll I can afford for my lens is just the 90-300mm USM. (no not IS) so I get frustrated when taking shots. But at least living in Busay (mountain part of Cebu) has its advantages, since I get a lot of close encounters with birds. Such as this: vanjhnn.multiply.com/photos/album/105/Wild_bird_hit_our_window_and_this_time_its_a_Variable_Forest_KingfisherAnyway, I do hope I can learn more from the masters from this forum, especially from the very Famous Romy Ocon, whose pictures never cease to amaze me. Hope to meet other birders and photographers around here.

Hi Johnn, welcome to the forum You have found the right place to hang out in online because we are all crazy about birds and bird photography too. The nice thing about this hobby is that AGE does not really matter at all just as long as you have the passion for it. I looked at your website and I saw the 2 birds that bumped into your glass windows. Looks like you have nursed them back to good health - galing naman !!! I hope and pray that you also release them back sa wild when they are okay na ulit

I love the background. Your AGE allows you more time to make MONEY to buy longer lenses. BTW what happened to your little bird? It flew the coup na?

Gi guys. thanks for the welcome. Actually< i released all of them. The general rule of bird health (as i've learned through experience in Bird Keeping and Books) is that these birds are to relax in a secured area, a dark area, so they will regain their consciousness, after which I released them (daytime of course) And they are all feeling better I guess.

Welcome to the forum, John. You've found the right place. In a way, we share the same circumstances (age and money) . I also have no personal acquaintances around my age who share the same passion (or insanity, depending on how you want rationalize it) and I'll still be counting decades before I can afford those long lenses, if at all. At times I've thought of pursuing another field in photography but I always end up in this forum viewing the wonderful images from the photographers and learning. So there, I think it's the passion. Paolo's statement just nailed it. Happy birding!

wow! He has a way better gear than me! Anyway, its not only age that matters here, I'm not really fully supported by my family when it comes to birding (Tito, dont tell mom I said this, I know you might read this!). In the case of my sister she said: "Dili na maka datu ang pag tuon sa imong mga langgam" (Studying birds wont make you rich).. sigh.

Welcome aboard Johnn. I'm also based in Cebu, and I'm one of the authors of that book you mentioned. If you like, you can hook up with Nilo, Osawa, and myself sometime and we can explore Busay together. We've been kinda out of the picture for a while - mainly for lack of subjects in the known birding locations here.
You will find a lot of information in this board, and it is home to the very best Wild Bird Photographers in the World too! They are all willing and able to share important tips and techniques, and with the standards set by Ka Mastah Romy, you can be sure that you are learning from the cream of the crop!
All the best!
Bobby K.
