Went to Makiling yesterday for this bird alone. In spite of reading a lot of unfavorable forecasts about the weather in Makiling the night before, I still went on with my plans to head to the mountains. Did something unusual too when it comes to going to Makiling - I left the house much later than my usual time because I did not feel like driving in the dark this time around. As soon as I went out of our front door, I knew right away that I was going to have a wonderful day The sun was out the whole time I was there. Saw Mela and Nestor (of Villa Escudero) with some kids as I was about to pack up and head for home. It is also the first time I went to Makiling with only ONE bird in mind - and this was it. There were a lot of birds flying and posing about but I told myself that this is the only bird I want to take pictures of for this trip ;D I kinda had a hard time looking for it because the nest was so tiny! Thank you propjerry and Neon for your help. I spent around 4 hours watching this family alone. The parents took turns in sitting on the nest to warm the nestlings and looking for food - from spiders, to berries to all sorts of worms. The Philippine serpent eagle kept calling me from above but I refused to point my lens elsewhere. Thanks Ely, Chito and Sylvia for the kind remarks. Ate Lyds and Ding for taking the time to look Naku Ate Lyds, my pictures are nothing compared to the others in this forum. Hindi pwede pang magazine yung akin. Sylvs, you know our "supposed" to be hiding place at your house to view the nesting yellow vented bulbuls - that is so much nearer compared to the one in Makiling. It's so funny nga kasi every time the serpent eagle would call out, the nestlings always think it's either their mama or papa calling out with fresh food to feed them so they would push their heads against the parent that was sitting on top of them and you would see the parent shifting positions to give them room to jut out their tiny heads. Had a super wonderful time yesterday just observing their behavior. Such a wonderful hobby we guys have Ding, sent you PM na.

Galing! I'll have to say - it almost looks better than the real thing.... Wait a minute - it DOES look better! I see more details without the eyestrain. I knew it was going to be a good day the minute I saw THE MAGNET. Mela

Woooowww!! Did not reply earlier but these were the shots that made my feet itchy this morning. After I saw the location of the nest I was in awe on how Plain Master Idol Tina pulled these perfect shots. I was supposed to see Propjerry at UPD but somehow I ended up at UPLB...hahahahahaha...Thanks Plain Idol Tins for giving the exact location. To those planning to get a shot at this, just look for trashed vegetation beyond the railing, that's where I stood for hours on end... ;D..Good Luck!!
