Hi everyone. I just got my own camera Thursday and was so excited I tried to find some birds in Alabang Friday! This bird, was kind enough to pose for me as I was sorting out all the buttons. It was of course the most common bird of all, a Eurasian Tree Sparrow, Passer montanus. Canon 50D 400mm, 5.6, 1/800, iso 400, manual focus, hand held I continued to look for birds and saw quite a few. It started to rain so I used my car and was able to capture this young bird looking for shelter under a tree. I found it interesting that their eyes are blue when younger. Immature Crested Myna, Acridotheres cristatellusCanon 50D 400mm, 5.6, 1/320, iso 800, AF, hand held The next day Sylvia, Tina and I went to Cavite so I could go on my first out of town trip as a photographer. Hehe. We really wanted to find a particular bird and as luck would have it we saw the male and female but in different places. Male Blue Rock Thrush, Monticola solitariusCanon 50D 400mm, 5.6, 1/200, iso 500, AF, on Tina's bean bag We took quite a few other birds. This bird was under a tree and it was raining a bit so maybe thats why it stayed put. WHITE THROATED KINGFISHER, Halycon smyrnensisCanon 50D 400mm, 5.6, 1/160, iso 640, AF, handheld Thanks to Tina for helping me buy my gear and going with us to Cavite. Thanks also for the breakfast and loaning me the CF card.

Hi Tina, I had a lot of practice with the scope. Its really harder to take good pictures with the scope. The SLR with telephoto is really much easier to use in comparison. You have to be more patient. I think if the bird is near enough its just so much easier to use a telephoto instead. Its much easier to acquire the target and so fast. I am not a newbie photographer, I have been taking pictures since high school. Only a newbie with bird photography using a telephoto lens. Thanks for finding the lens for me Tina. ;D Tonji

Hi Romy, thanks for the encouragement. Hey, Paollo yup Tina told me about the lens, I reserved it the got it the next day. Tina also helped me test it before buying. Edu, thanks. We were three birders in the car so we had six eyes looking for birds. Hehe. JP, Hi again your pictures are fantastic. Thanks for the welcome. Hi Teddy, thanks for the great comments. No wonder Sylvia likes this forum. People are very supportive. Hi Ely, thank you. Your camera setup is really topnotch. And your feeding series was so superb. 1-2-3, who knew they could count? Hi Ron, thanks. The encouragement makes me want to go out and capture more birds.

Thanks Toto. Thank you TeLyds- yup Sylvia got a very big dry box already. It has all our birding and camera stuff. This is an equipment heavy hobby. To think it just started with walking around and looking at birds. Hehe. Martin, thanks for the kind words. Lets go birding again soon.
