Hi everyone, my name is Pete and I am currently in the north of UK. I have been to the Philippines (Bohol) a few times where I met my partner.
I am very interested in wild life photography so went out and bought myself a good camera and a good selection of lenses. All I need now is the ability to use them, unfortunately my job in pipeline construction has limited my time wth my cameras so I will need all the help I can get.
I am hoping that I can gain much advice from the members of this community regarding the wildlife of the Philippines, where to go and what can be found etc.
I will also be interested in any posts that advise me as a newcomer on how to set up and use photographic equipment etc.
Thats about it for now, except to say that I will be returning to Phils hopefully next month, . bye for now!

Hi, Pete! You mentioned you are into pipeline construction. I am into construction myself and work for Manila Water so half my job is into pipelaying. Perhaps we can email each other regarding our careers.
On the camera gear, you may want to post what you have so people with similar equipment can help you out. Not sure how much you already know about photography but I suggest, after learning the technical details, just dive into it and ask for specific tips as you go along.
You may also want to learn/practice some post processing as digital photography (and specially bird digital photography) almost always needs some tweaking after shooting RAW.
Looking forward to your posts and meeting you in Manila!

Thanks for the nice warm welcome everyone,
Fay_J, you say you are a UK resident, do you visit the Philippines?
balarila, hi and thanks for your interesting reply, the pipelines I work on are usually gas and oil and most of the last 20 years I've spent in the middle east, for the last three years I have been working in the UK on LNG pipelines required to upgrade the infrastructure due to the north sea gas supply coming to an end.
Most of my equipment is Canon, My main camera is a 5D. I have a range of lenses all canon except a macro by sigma. The lenses range from 28mm to 300mm I would like to get a much longer lens for the bird photography, maybe a 500mm but cash is tight at the moment.
I have a Canon XL1 video cam which has a 16x zoom, does anyone know if a macro lens is available for this camera?
I have 2 good tripods, ones a Slick and the other is a Manfrodo. Thats about it for my kit.
I'm shipping all this stuff to Phils and waiting for the shipping cartons to arrive next Monday. after that it's just a matter of booking my flight to Cebu and away I go. I'm actually going to be based on Panglao island off Bohol and looking forward to being there very much.
Romy Ocon and Nilo Aribas Jr thanks for your welcome, I hope that once I get to Philippines I will be a regular visitor to this forum.
See you all soon!
