A Luzon hornbill has been caught tonight within U.P. Campus. They bringing it to the Biology Institute tomorrow morning. What should be do about it? I plan to have it released.
Also, Doc Mando and I have spotted late this afternoon what might turn out to be (for confirmation tomorrow) a red-legged crake.
Also, together with Neon, we have spotted an unidentified warbler that promises to be another record -- right close to where the crake is.
Also, the coconut Philippine nightjar is back, right near where the crake is.
I am going to be there before six o'clock tomorrow morning, rain or shine.
Cheers!

Re: Hornbill Agree with it being released. But where? I think it should be released where it's usually seen in the wild. IMHO, it'll be in grave danger if released in the metropolitan area.
Do we have current regulations as what to do with captured wildlife?
Good luck with the new UP visitors.

Prop, I suggest that you check if the hornbill is male and of breeding age. It might be breeding within the UP campus and releasing it in a different location might starve its mate and chick.
As we all know, the female and their chick are sealed inside a tree hollow and is fed by the male.

Sad to say, the hornbill is dead. I have come too late. It seem to have died from starvation. It is not the Luzon hornbill that once in a while visits the campus. Cel says it is a male narcondam hornbill from India.

This what Tim Fisher has to say: "It seems to be Blyth's Hornbill from Indonesia ( Moluccas and New Guinea). Obviously a released captive bird."
