Went back to La Mesa with Doc Mando today. Sorry, guys, it was spur of the moment thing. Rey and Bong, the other possible sortie-mates couldn't make it. Doc Mando didn't get to photograph the Ruddy Kingfisher although we saw them a number of times (yes, there were two!). They were skittish today. Probably because there were dirt-bikers on the trail today scouting the place as there'll be more than 300 on Sunday for a race arranged through Bantay Kalikasan. I hope the bikers don't spook away all the birds. I guess if BK allows hundreds of bikers in the place, they should be able to accomodate us birdnuts, too. Here're the birds:

It flies at a little before noon so we'll know when to wait for it next time and take sharper photos.

Thanks, Romy. Aside from the possible variety of species, the predictability of the birds we've so far photographed make it ideal. One could plan a trek timed at stops when the birds show themselves.
I'm concerned, though, that that biking "fiesta" may alter the birds' routines.
We'll find out after next weekend.

Very nice harvest Ding. Looks like you've found a new birding hotspot.

Congrats Ding!
La Mesa is not really an abundant birding area four years ago with all those construction and "improvements" in preparation for the visiting public.
Now we know what isolation and some protection can do to place like this.
Thanks for sharing.

If you meant La Mesa Ecopark, the place I shot from is not that one. The Ecopark (where todate, still not an abundant birding place) is right below the dike, at the southwest edge of the reservoir. Where I bird from, I come in from the Eastern part of the watershed and trek towards the man-made lake. This place is virtually preserved (except for the trails). Hopefully, it stays that way.

Nice captures Ding. Thanks.
Were the dirt bikes motorized? If so, that's not a good thing. I wonder what peeps from BK are smoking.
Can't wait to see more images from another sortie.
Happy birding.

Sorry, I wasn't specific. No, the bikes, thankfully, were the non-motorized types. In my younger years, I think they were called BMX.
