This bird was my target bird for our Baguio trip because I got lousy captures during our last trip there. Wency and I found a place in Baguio where they don't seem to be scared of people at all. I really find this bird very beautiful because of it's colors. Sulphur-billed Nuthatch Sitta oenochlamys

Omigosh... these are awesome, Tina! These guys are very shy in Makiling, plus they're often in the dark. Great work in getting them in good light. Romy *Note to self - PM Tina re specific location, and try to sched a trip up the mountains asap... ;D*

Hi Tina, Very nice! Just a note on the current taxonomic status of this bird. We reviewed this bird a couple of years ago, and have concurred that it is a good species [in fact, almost surely more closely related to the Yellow-billed Nuthatch (Sitta solangiae), ranging on Hainan I., and in Vietnam], than to Sitta frontalis.
Sitta frontalis still ranges in Phils. In fact, if I recall correctly the only photo that I have ever seen of the Philippine ranging frontalis, may be yours, i.e., Sitta frontalis palawana - ranging only on Palawan and Balabac.
So, what bird is this? This is Sulphur-billed Nuthatch (Sitta oenochlamys). It is an adult male, and these may be the first photos that I have seen of this particular race. Race mesoleuca. This is, because of the split, considered now a Philippine endemic. The race palawana of Sitta frontalis is only an endemic race, as the species itself (with other races) ranges also outside of Phils.
