Guys and gals, let's discuss the pros and cons of whether to limit the exhibit to UP birds or not during the organizing meeting.

Suggestion for an alternative venue. Can we meet at Starbucks or Coffee Bean instead, both are in the same place. Krispy creme donuts are good but the coffee's not to good.

Another untapped market of oblivious people.... the UPLB community where more than 80% of the student population live in campus. To think that the university lies within the Mt. Makiling.

My dear Carmela, Even the forest rangers in the Botanic Garden said that the only bird they are able to identify to the children are the captive raptors. All the others, they call birds. They do not have a Kennedy Book and they like to learn. lyd

Hope I can help out. Wanted to join you on this first meeting so I can meet the wonderful people behind PBPF, but its my daughter's birthday that Saturday. Maybe on the succeeding meetings I'll drop by to meet you. I definitely don't have any photos to share yet, but in case there's anything I can be of assistance, I'll make myself available.

Reminds me of a scenario not too long ago when it took a photographer magnificus to expose the beauty we had within our grounds. It was just a bird until he photographed it.

Prop Jerry said: "There seems to be two views regarding the "100" birds: Are we to exhibit Philippine birds in general or U.P. (all campuses including Makiling areas) birds only?" Carmela and I have talked about this. We both agreed that it is fitting to exhibit the birds of UP Diliman campus only. Both of us don't have pictures to show, but we would like to share our thoughts on this project. Regarding this issue, let me put forward some thoughts: 1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the centennial celebration is for the whole UP system, and not just UP-Diliman. 2. The UP System includes Diliman, LB, Baguio, Visayas, Mindanao, etc., encompassing diverse avian habitat systems, practically covering most of the known bird species photographed by PBP members. Hence, the UP system is not University of Diliman, but rather University of the whole Philippines, avian-wise. Website of UP system - www.up.edu.ph/Centennial activities in many UP campuses: www.upd.edu.ph/~updinfo/whatsup/activities.html3. I haven't seen yet a complete birdlist for the whole UP system, so we can't really include/exclude any bird species. 4. If we limit the photos to Diliman (and/or Makiling) birds only, we're not really showcasing the best that PBP members have accomplished. Besides, the other UP campuses wouldn't be represented. 5. As I earlier suggested, we can segregate photos of birds known to range in the UP system locales and hang these in a special, prominent spot to give the centennial celebration its due importance. Daytoy ti dua nga sentimos nga kantidad ti panunot ko. (My 2 centavos worth) ;D Romy

Agree with Idol Romy, let's assemble at or near the original venue, then just transfer later to the venue of choice of the gang. I am now excited at the prospect of seeing for the first time some of our members. Cheers!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Romy. I had time to digest what you wrote. The UP system is the educational system the university prides itself in, be it in LB, the Visayas or elsewhere. A photo exhibit of Birds found in campus reinforces that theme of educating and bringing to light another facet of the campus. From this point of view, I don't know how featuring a bird not found or seen in a UP campus celebrates this. Then again, if the PBPhotogs goal is to commemorate each year of the university by showcasing their best work as a tribute for UP, that's not so bad either.

Thanks all for attending the organizing meeting for this project..... will open separate working threads later. Meantime, here's a couple of snapshots of the gang in a pow-wow, both taken with the hand held 1dm2 + Sigma 24 f1.8 in available light (first by the Sigmonster Tamer, and the second by JP). Processed these at Pogito's LCD, so I'm not sure if these look right. Prof. Jerry presents his ideas on the project, while the gang listens. The Sigmonster Tamer joins the group (note to self - try to be in the center when being photographed with a wide angle lens, otherwise the edge distortion will make a sumo wrester an even bigger one ;D ;D ;D)

Thanks for the pictures, Mastah Romy. It was nice to meet you all, guys. This idea just came into my mind after the meeting. What do you think about setting up a website for the event? The website can contain the images posted in the gallery, photographer info, pictures of the exhibit itself (updated as it progresses), and more. This can cater to our audiences who cannot visit the exhibit's venue -- probably those from Visayas or Mindanao or even from overseas. We can host it here in the forum itself or in some other hosting site. Although website design is not my forte, I can handle the technicals. If there is spare funding we can hire a web designer, otherwise I'll just look for free site hosting that offers good page templates. What do you think guys?

If the photo made use of flash and you were at center, great risk of terribly overexposed shot! Oops. Looks like teLyd's vicious humor has rubbed off on me already! Now, look at that, I may have inadvertently earned the ire of two people within one message!

I used a reflector just above the 1DM2's hotshoe. ;D

He, he Ding. You were missed last night. There was no bursting dam, where were you? I hope you do not miss the big event after the opening of the exhibit -- all the PBP members present will be posing by the oblation- birding buddies- birdie to birdie. Oooops Make sure you submit the Scops owl and others from Flor's Farm. We will be soliciting funds from her family--- 4 generations of UP Centennial Awardees.
