Hi everyone, I just want to introduce myself. Mr. Rey Sta.Ana highly recommended this site. His enthusiasm about his mentor (Romy) and the members of this community prompted me to register.
I am based out of Vancouver, Canada but was originally from Nueva Ecija.
I am neither a birder nor a good photographer. I've always been a P&S guy until 8 months ago when I decided to jump into the DSLR crowd. I think I caught the bug.
At the moment I try to go out and shoot anything and everything but lately nature landscapes & wildlife subject seems to be where I am getting drawn.
When it comes to birding. I know I have a very steep learning curve ahead of me. All I see at the moment is a brown bird, a white bird, ... a pretty bird :-p. I guess I'll be asking y'all to ID a bird or two for me. Hopefully not too often.
Unfortunately the bad news is that, With the exception of a few weeks vacation back to Pinas. My contribution will mostly consist of North American species.
Equipment-wise: I've recently purchased a 40D + 70-200mm f4 IS. I'm already thinking I need a farther reaching glass than what I have.
I'm looking forward meeting everyone.

Thank you for your warmest welcome. I'm sure I'll enjoy it here.
If I may make a comment. I'm just looking at all your gears. With my 70-200 f4 IS. I can't help feeling like Wil Smith in MIB with his little tiny pistol. :-p
I'm really looking forward meeting (on-line) y'all.
Thanks again.

what part of the US are you going to? If in Southern Cal, email me and maybe I can show you around. I appreciate the offer but I'm afraid it's not that kind of a trip. I'm only going about 45 minutes away from my home. It a tiny border town called Blaine, Washington (2 hrs north of Seattle). The hummingbirds usually comes around this time. But it's been cold this year. So I just want to check out if they have arrived.

Welcome Jun. Please take note that there is a thread titled "FOR ATE LYDS" where you can post your butterfly photos, in case you see some fluttering around. I just came back from a 2 week butterflywatching trip in Quezon and Bukidnon with my mentor/book partner from Vancouver. I'm a bird and butterfly nut... more of the latter. telyd

Jun, looking forward in seeing some hummers.
Last month or so, I installed a humming bird feeder in our backyard. And right now, they are a regulalr customer. They now now where the goodies are. Here in Sacramento, we have Anna's all-year round. But I'm seeing another species who's a regular too ... not sure type though. It might just be an immature, which is not uncommon this time . Once they're tame and used to seeing me often, I'll set up a rig so I can take some shots myself.
Good luck, these cute little bastards are so tiny.

@lydia Robledo, thanks. I'll jeep a lookout for the butterflies :-)
@ted, yes they are cute.Plus I want to see if the 70-200 F4 is fast enough to stop their wings.
