This morning, Ely Teehankee and I went up Mt. Banahaw to 3,000 feet above sea level to catch the mixed flocks of upper-elevation montane birds. We set up our hides so that the birds would come closer to us. Although no big mixed flock came, we had 4 small mixed flocks and a good number of individual birds come from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. We were rewarded with our best looks at pairs of Metallic-Winged Sunbirds ( Aethopyga pulcherrima), presumably the jefferyi race. Canon 1DX camera, 800 mm lens, tripod. F/5.6, ISO-1250, 1/500, manual exposure. F/5.6, ISO-1250, 1/160, manual exposure. F/5.6, ISO-1600, 1/1000, manual exposure. We were in the same place and all I got was the female Metallic-winged Sunbird. Your tenacity to stay in one place paid off with the best capture of the day. Well done Ramon & Mabuhay.
