When I saw the Copper Throated Sunbird posted by Renoir at the PBPF, it gave me a good reason to visit Puerto Princesa. Although I have been there before to go fishing, I have never tried birding yet until this trip. Thanks to Gabs who gave me the name of the hotel where he stayed and the location of the bird which is the area of the Badjao Seafood Restaurant just 5 minutes from the hotel. Birding was good and the food was also very good. It is so nice to be eating in a restaurant over the sea water and surrounded by old & young "Bakawan" trees.
Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, Canon EF 800mm f5.6L IS USM, Gitzo GT3530LS tripod, Wimberley WH200 head. Manual exposure in available light.
As I entered the place I was greeted with a playful Pied Fantail (Rhipidura javanica) and some of his friends that gave me the chance to take some close up pictures of them.

This is the Olive-winged Bulbul (Pycnonotus plumosus) which I mistook for Philippine Bulbul. According to Des the PB does not exist in Palawan. I mistook the id of the bird and also almost missed the tail.

Chestnut Munia (Lonchura atricapilla). It was by chance that I saw this bird on a log and gave me a chance to take his picture.

How many birds do you see in this picture? I thought it was the Elegant Tit and just took pictures of it hiding behind the leaves. Later on it did not come and it turn out to be a lifer. Thanks to Des who identified the bird as Common Iora (Aegithina tiphia). Wikipidia describes it as a subspecies (aeqanimis) of Palawan.

Gabs told me to look out for the Stork-billed Kingfisher, (Pelargopsis capensis) and true enough it did appear but extremely shy. This is all I got of him.

The Collared Kingfisher (Todiramphus chloris) likes to perch on an old Bakawan tree right in front of the restaurant. While eating I decided to take his picture even if he was some distance away.

The star of the show at the Badjao Seafood Restaurant is the Copper-throated Sunbird (Nectarinia calcostetha). It did not show up right away but after waiting it out I finally got to see it. It was not easy to photograph this skittish bird and I am glad that I was able to see him on my first day.

This creeping Sunbird seemed like he wanted to hide but I was fortunately able to take a picture of him doing that.
