Last time, I was able to photograph a brown shrike impaling its meal and eating it part by part. Hence the nickname "Butcherbird" for the Brown Shrike and the Logger Head Shrike. This time I was able to see a BS attack and kill an ETS 1. Was just about to take a pic of an ETS on the sand when this fellow swooped in 2. The ETS tried to put up a fight. 3. but the Shrike was just too powerful and aggressive.. 4. And the ETS was no more..

Great series on the shrike's behavior. Haven't seen this in real life yet.

What a series, Edu! Love the shrike's stance on the last photo, it looks like that of a proud warrior who had just slain an enemy (well in this case, a prey). Two thumbs up!

There is no blood? The shrike must be carnivorous. Nice documentation and pictures. Well done Edu. Mabuhay.

Could have been better in video! But that would be X! Nice documentation, Edu!

@sir Eric, watching it in real life was an adrenalin rush then a sad moment for the ETS. So many things were going through my mind aside from camera settings. Should I take pics? Should I take a video? Should I interfere and save the ETS? I decided to just document with pics. mark, that is also my favorite among the set. It looks so proud with that pose. But to tell you frankly, I think it was just weary of the surroundings as there was a lot of Videoke noise in the resort. @sir Ely, now that you have mentioned it, I also find it a bit strange that there is an absence of blood in the pics. Am not sure about the makeup of a bird's body but I do remember finding not a trace of the action at the crime scene. I was too busy checking my photos and did not see if the shrike flew away with ETS carcass in it's claws or the ETS just played possom and flew off on its own. @sir Alain, I did contemplate on taking video.. but there was someone singing "Why do birds.. suddenly appear.." in the Videoke

thanks Toto and Sir Rey! I too pity the ETS. Godo, so this I guess can be told as "normally the brown shrike eats insects but will sometimes prey on smaller birds like the ETS"
